There's an entire chapter about this coinciding collision of fate
being grabbed by all parties involved, but a condensed version is
necessary for this site considering how valuable I view The Cab as
artists and, most importantly, friends.
Story
I found The Cab by accident when I overheard a lyric from a Howie
Day song that led me to a Google search, which then ended with
I'll Run on my ipod. That song not only turned into one of the
perfect additions to a mix CD for my then girlfriend, but also was
on my Boston running playlist. I qualified for the Boston
Marathon and won the mobility impaired division the year I'll Run
was released. See, I not only ran a marathon, I have overcome a
ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke. Doctors thought I may never
walk again, but my parents had more than a little faith in me,
pushed me harder than they ever could...and I'll Run forever now.
24 years later and nobody can tell that I live with a permanent
physical and neurological disability.
The boys heard about this, brought me up on stage when they played
in Baltimore and dedicated I'll Run to me, telling the entire
audience my story. I filmed the entire thing on my phone. Now,
my now ex-girlfriend made me a mix CD first. Instead of putting
song titles inside the sleeve, she wrote phrases about how the
song related to us and our relationship. When it came to I’ll
Run, the phrase I put on her CD was "You’re three times the lady
I’ll ever have" naturally. That same girlfriend, I gave her a
promise ring before she went back to school. Get this--it was a
25 cent plastic ring that I got at the grocery store (shop) down
the street--I swear it. I knew it was cheap, not like gold in her
dreams, but not only did she wear it...she never took it off. She
never took it off...and it eventually stained her finger green!
(The ink may stain my skin...) I wasn't perfect, but I always
swore that I was perfect for her. I have gotten over her, and now
it's a memory I will now Endlessly cherish because of The Cab.
Singer, Marshall, Joey, Brock and everyone else that has been part
of The Cab have left a permanent mark on my life, have given me
the faith to ask another woman to Take My Hand when the time
comes, but most importantly have become true friends. And to
think, it all started from a small error of not recognizing a song
on the radio.
And let it be known that none of this would have happened if Brock
did not promise to introduce me to the boys after the first time I
saw them in concert last year. I was kind of shocked at how
genuinely and truly he grasped my story. Brock introduced me to
Marshall. The rest is history that is still being made with these
guys, but had to give a major shout out to Brock for being the
man. #cantstopwontstop baby!
