Father’s Day was fun.  My Dad wanted to go to Ben’s Chili Bowl in DC.  My Mom hadn’t been before and she loved it.  Then we went to the SW Waterfront to the fish market and my dad picked out a bunch of seafood that he’s having for dinner tonight.  We would have made it last night, but Ben’s filled us up.

Between mapping out the trip, booking rooms and celebrating Father’s Day, this was a busy weekend, but at least that means we made the most out of the whole weekend!  My Dad said he had a great father’s day.  That’s all that matters today =)

My Mom and I mapped out my entire Northeast/New England roadtrip.  Check it out!

Allegheny State Forest – Warren, PA
Niagra Falls - NY
Green Mountain National Forest, then to Ben and Jerry’s Factory – VT
White Mountain National Forest – NH
Whale watching and lobster – Bar Harbor and Portland, ME
visiting where my girlfriend grew up and picking up some goodies and souvenirs for her and her family  - Portsmouth, NH
Cape Cod – MA
Block Island – RI
Mystic and then back to Providence for Fire Water – CT and RI
Catskills – NY
Back home to Maryland!

Road trip adventure #2.  I can’t wait!  And to think, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my adapted car.  Wow, freedom is amazing!

I wanted to give everyone a small taste of what I have been working on this past month.  I just finished chapter 7 last night where the thought being presented in the second quote has been developed out.

I couldn’t find my dinosaur, but after grabbing and poking, I trap the rock against the bottom corner of the bin. I grip it in the center of my palm and pull it out with a handful of beans I can’t even feel trickling out of my hand. I only hear them land in the bin. There are even beans clutched in my palm with the green brontosaurus too. I don’t feel them either, but when I see them I kind of make out the feeling. – A quote from chapter 3 describing the obstacles of going through the initial bouts of physical therapy.

"My first time pitching starts with me busting the shed. However, with Daddy coaching me, my first time pitching ends with me busting something else. It only took two pitches for me to find something I love. In those two pitches, I busted myself out of my disability." - Ch. 7 when I discover baseball

I hit the 90 page mark last nigh while writing the new book!  I'm thinking about celebrating this pace by doing another road trip, this time across the Northeast above Maryland!  After all, I've got this adapted car.  What's the point of having it if I don't use it?  It got me to Colorado and back in November.  I think it can handle driving to Maine and back in June =)

Saturday was the annual meeting and luncheon for the DC chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.  I went there not knowing what to expect, but at the very least getting food.  Turns out that I wind up making a couple of really good friends there with people who I wind up having a lot in common with.

I’m taking an executive board position with Phi Beta Kappa this year.  I know that there are a lot of people my age in the DC area who graduated Phi Beta Kappa.  It would be really fun to get all of us together and create a new and social generation of DC’s chapter.  Working with my new friends, some of which are also on the board, I have a strong feeling that we are going to create an influx of fun activities that DC PBK hasn’t done yet.

There’s going to be a lot to do, but based on the interactions I have already had with my new friends, it’s going to be a worthwhile venture.  We’re going to be more social, come up with more frequent, every day activities and make this group more of a group of friends hanging out instead of a group going on various field trips.  Between my writing schedule, certain people’s internships and everyone’s jobs, we are going to be a very hectic group, but making an effort to keep in touch with everyone and make things more active is going to make for a very fun year.  And I want nothing less for my first year in an officer role.
